Job Summary/Description:
WCJB TV20 is looking for the face of our Ocala Bureau. The role will involve reporting primarily in Marion County, hosting interviews, and going live from the Ocala Bureau, along with anchoring newscasts. The ideal candidate has at least three years of experience as a reporter and/or anchor and is eager to plug into the community in Ocala/Marion County.
Duties/Responsibilities would include (but not be limited to):
- Serves as the face and voice of WCJB TV20's news presence in Ocala and Marion County
- Anchors newscasts either regularly or on a fill-in basis
- Creates and strengthens connections in the community; hosts Ocala/Marion County events with community partners
- Schedules and conducts priority interviews in the Ocala Bureau
- Works with our team on promotable stories (targeted special reports) to showcase our coverage
- Develops viable and varied Ocala/Marion County story ideas and pitches at daily at meetings.
- Receives assignments or evaluates news leads/news tips to develop story ideas.
- Gathers and verifies factual information regarding stories through interviews, observation, and research.
- Organizes material, determines slant or emphasis and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
- Shoots video and still photos for web, if required, to illustrate stories.
- Edits videos for all multimedia platforms.
- Gives live reports from site of event or Ocala Bureau
- Assists news producer in preparing newscasts as needed.
- Demonstration of editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws.
- Additional duties as required by management.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- At least three years of experience as a reporter and/or anchor.
- BA degree in broadcast news or equivalent work experience.
- Must be a team player; must be able to lead a team as well.
- Computer literacy required, including, ideally ENPS news system.
- Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
- Edit video on Edius editing system or a similar program.
- Ability to meet various deadlines.
- Strong broadcast and AP-style writing skills.
- Proficient at posting content to station website, Facebook, and Twitter.
- Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
- Valid Driver`s license and acceptable driving record required. No phone calls. EOE.
